Heraeus acquires Biomain to grow CAD/CAM presence

Heraeus Dental has bought Biomain, Swedish provider of customised CAD/CAM-based implant-borne prosthetics. Buying is supposed to strengthen Heraeus' presence within the Northern European dental CAD/CAM market and extend its patent and product portfolio in digital implant prosthetics.

Biomain, founded in 2002, manufactures CAD/CAM frameworks, supra-structures and prosthetic components at its production and development center in Helsingborg.



Heraeus Dental, located in Hanau, Germany, offers a variety of items for a number of programs for example its customised, industrially manufactured CAD/CAM solutions underneath the cara brand. The merchandise range includes milled or sintered crowns and bridges, and individualised abutments in a multitude of materials for example zirconia, polymers, cobalt chromium and titanium.

Using the purchase of BioMediFace, Swiss developer of CAD/CAM-based biomedical prosthetics, Heraeus started to grow its CAD/CAM business in Southern Europe. Now, buying of Biomain is wished to bolster the company’s presence in Northern European.

“We are astounded by the outstanding technical and manufacturing expertise, along with the spirit from the Biomain staff,” stated Dr Martin Schuster, mind from the prosthetics division at Heraeus Kulzer. “Technologically and geographically, Biomain complements our cara range perfectly. Our prime quality level and repair orientation from the Swedish specialists also matches our high standards.”

The previous primary proprietors of Biomain, founder Jerry Wiener and entrepreneur Joachim Samuelsson, agreed: “The competences, product ranges and also the regional talents of Heraeus and Biomain complement one another perfectly. Our clients within the dental labs may benefit out of this enormously.”
